Don't be afraid to take out student loans. Interest rates on these loans are extremely low and fixed. Especially if you take out one directly from the government thats subsidized. Although you should keep in mind that there is no way to get rid of student loans. Even if you file for bankruptcy that particular debt will always remain.
Secondly, apply to as many scholarships as possible. It doesn't matter how many rejects you due to lacking qualifications. You mustn't be scared to "shotgun blast" scholarships to increase your chances of getting one. Some of you may be timid in failing to get the scholarship. All I can say is be realistic. In this world you need to find as many ways as possible to save money. Even apply to ones that offer only a tiny amount. A $100-300 dollar scholarship can help cut out textbook costs.
You can also obtain financial aid from the state and school. You can get tax breaks as long as you're under 24 and a dependent living with your parents aside from dorming. There are also education credits which you can take.
In selecting a college, you can lower your tuition by going to a public university. They're cheaper and usually have a decent reputation. City and State universities can provide your more than enough qualifications. You don't need to go to the best schools, only be the best in the one you're currently in. Community colleges are by far the cheapest schools you can attend. You can go for two years and then transfer to a better school thus saving so much money. It'll also probably raise your GPA as you transferred over your grades.
