Spring 2007 shoe trends

As the winter season gives way to spring, our clothes become lighter and fresher. Spring footwear gets a makeover too, to stay in stride with the season's fresh crop of easy, breezy pieces. Here are a few noteworthy spring 2007 trends in both ladies and men's shoes.
WOMEN'S SHOES
A fabulous pair of shoes can instantly transform a "nice" outfit into a head-turning one. Like a great-looking handbag, a great pair of "notice me" shoes can update any outfit and pull the look together.
The fashion trend towards dresses and crop pants means that feet (and footwear) will be in full view, so it's our shoes time to shine, literally. Women's sandals and shoes shimmer from embedded jewels, sequins, stones and glistening materials. Ladies footwear for spring and summer also features embellishments such as studs, straps, buckles, bows and pleats.
Sky high wedges with wooden heels are a major footwear trend this spring. Demure ankle-strap flats and sexy slingback sandals in unusual patterns are both strong contenders this season, as are grecian-inspired gold sandals, lavish sky-high satin heels and braided suede ankle-strap heels.
Color is another major footwear trend this spring. Glossy peep-toe heels in hot hues like tangerine, fiery red and hot pink are guaranteed to give a laid-back outfit unexpected sizzle.
MEN'S SHOES
New shoe trends for men are not markedly different from last spring. Heels are somewhat smaller, black and brown continue their color reign, and rubber soles remain popular.
Loafers, always a closet staple for many men, are sporting a sleeker look and downsized heels. Kenneth Cole, Gucci, and Hugo Boss are among the fashion leaders in the loafer category.
Oxfords are spruced up this spring with a slightly elongated profile and squared-off toe. Black boots feature a sleeker profile and smaller heel, appropriate for both office wear and dressy casual looks.
