Truth: Ideas require application

There has never been a shortage of ideas in the world. At any given time, there are countless ideas floating around in every head. Many of these ideas are half baked, ill considered and best kept safely confined within those heads. Some of these innumerable ideas are well developed and could make a huge difference if applied in the real world. The key words, of course, are "if applied"!

Ideas in general are a dime a dozen. Truly excellent ideas are somewhat more rare and valuable. People who take action to put great ideas into practice are the rarest and most precious commodity of all.

Some people are more temperamentally inclined to think than to act. Others are more inclined to act than to think. Neither group is of much value on their own. Thought without action is a dream. Action without thought can be a nightmare.

How many ideas sound great "in theory" but, when applied in the real world, prove to be totally unsound, even disastrous? Yet, it is only by testing our ideas in the real world that we can fully develop and improve upon them.

Do you think you have a great idea? Think on it a little longer. Do some careful research. Get the facts - all the facts that you can find - that pertain to the application of your idea. Refine it in the light of what you learn. Float it by someone you trust and listen to what they say about your idea. Be aware that many great ideas have been shot down and ridiculed when they were first proposed. If this happens to you and your idea, examine it thoroughly to be sure that the scoffers are not right. When you are as convinced as it is possible to be that your idea is basically sound, then, for God's sake, take some action!

Without thinkers, dreamers and visionaries, nothing would ever change for the better in this world. But thinking and dreaming are only the prerequisites for developing something of real value. Don't be just another dreamer. Be a doer.
