"Why would you want to pursue a master's degree?" is the very question I asked myself almost twelve years ago as I graduated with a Bachelor's degree. I honestly couldn't think of a single reason at that time that I would continue with school. And yet, here I am, thinking about going back to school. What changed?
For me, the opportunities in my field of employment are greater and more varied if I have a master's degree. The increase in money and the possibility of self employment also factor in to the decision. In addition to the very practical reasons for continuing my education, I have also discovered that I miss learning new things about my chosen profession. I know research has been done since I last graduated, but I don't have time to review it. Going back to school will help me to mature in my practice.
Of course for some people, it is also the thought of being able to defer living in the real world, and the status of a higher education that is attractive.
