Florence, Italy is a great place for venturing artists looking for history behind this beautiful thing. Florence would be great place for a vacation or trip with the class. Florence is a work of art itself. It's like a beautiful painting on the wall of a museum, except it's on the earth.
First with the statistics. Florence has a population of about 400,000. In 2004, the greater Firenze (Florence) area had a population of 957,949 inhabitants,93.30% being ethnic Italian. (From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F lorence )Florence is really a very interesting place.
Florence has a great history of art. There are many different artists that originated from Florence and made great beauties of art. It is said that, of the 1,000 most important European artists of the second millennium, 350 lived or worked in Florence. Michelangelo Buonarroti, commonly known as Michelangelo, is famous for the beautiful work of art on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. It is a painting of the scenes from Genesis in the bible. Michelangelo is a very well known artist and brings a certain something to Florence.
In Florence, there are also many art galleries in which you may see some very inspiring paintings. There is the Galleria Pananti, the Galleria Masini, the Galleria Ugolini, and many more. There are so many different Art museums to see in this gorgeous city.
I've read that most of the sights you want to see are within a half hour walk of the Duomo Cathedral in the centre city. Okay, now we're getting into history. Florence was first born in 59 B.C. as a settlement for retired Roman Soldiers. Florence slowly became more populated and had many interesting events happen.
