Preparing your family to move to a new home

as birds and mice can travel in their home. Cages should be covered with a cotton or wool material, so the bird will not become frightened. Ensuring their adequate supply of water and nutrition whilst traveling may be necessary dependent upon the duration of the trip. Often the pet(s) will react to your mood, so keeping calm is preferable if you can manage it. If you are tense and excitable, they will sense this and become stressed themselves. It is a good idea to talk to the pet(s) as well as other family members whilst traveling between homes. They will feel more secure in their extraordinary journey if they hear a familiar voice say their name. Pet(s) should be attended to as soon as possible upon arrival, and placed in a safe and secure place preferably with a familiar toy and adequate water/food as soon as you can.

Some families also have elderly members who tend to be of use to mind the younger members or pet(s) during the day of the move. Sometimes having a brief and friendly chat for a few minutes will put any problems to rest that they may have hidden away in order not to distress you. Although usually able to handle themselves, it is sometimes advisable to find a list of groups and activities that they have an interest in from the new location.

Every family is a different combination, but for the majority open conversation between all members that explores the good' and bad' points of the move for each is of benefit, so that any potential problems or upsets can be sorted out in time and not erupt at the last minute adding to the stress of the day itself.
