Confidence boosting is incredibly important going into a sale or even your general sales shift. The more confidence that you have, the more likely you are to stay positive throughout all of the rejection throughout the day, and the more likely you are to convince a customer that what you are saying is the absolute truth. When someone has confidence, it looks like they not only have confidence in themselves, but confidence in the product that they are selling as well. For a consumer, it is important to be able to see that someone is upbeat and truly believes in the product that they are attempting to sell, regardless of their true feelings on that particular product. With enough confidence, you can truly make a bag of dirt look like a great purchase and make your customers feel great about that purchase.
The problem is that most people don't just have confidence naturally. In fact, most everyone has some confidence, but in order to appear confident, they have to be pumped up and motivated. Because of this as a sales person, you really need to understand the ways in which you become motivated, upbeat, and thus confident. You first need to start by building up your product knowledge and your confidence in that.
One you first start a sales position the most integral part of building confidence, is knowledge. The more that you know about a product and it's inner workings, the more comfortable you are going to feel while selling that particular product. Just knowing that you are going to be able to answer virtually any question that a customer could possibly throw at you is a huge boost to you confidence level. Plus, it will make you seem incredibly knowledgeable as well. This of course, doesn't hurt your ability to sell a product either. But you don't just want a working knowledge of the product, you need to know about other competing products. By knowing all of this, you can not only sell your product, but easily compare it to other similar products. This is a great way to be able to counter any objections that your customers may have for not buying the product that you are attempting to sell.
Another way to boost your confidence is to dress for success. While this is a little trite, it is important to realize that your confidence is affected by the way that you feel.
