The fashion industry does discriminate against plus size women, but not as much as it used to. Almost all fashions are now available in plus sizes, and in fact many stores now specialize in plus size fashion. However many women do feel that the fashion industry still discriminates against plus size women. You rarely see plus sized fashion models or even sales people in clothes shops who are plus sized. So in general plus sized women are not well represented in the fashion world.
Many of the popular clothes store chains either do not stock plus sizes at all or they have a small plus size department with little variety. I often go shopping with my mother she is plus sized and I am what I guess is considered as the bigger side of not plus sized, meaning that I can shop in those annoying shops that don't stock plus sizes as I am the biggest size that they do stock, but we will have to go somewhere else to get something for my mum. Even I have problems getting clothes in certain shops although I am not plus sized myself. As much as I love going shopping with my mother it is a tedious task as we often have to go to twice as many shops as we would if we were both the same size.
Yes things have improved greatly in recent years with many shops now stocking plus sizes or even being devoted entirely to plus sized fashion. However the plus sized woman is not well represented in the fashion world, and shopping for reasonably priced, fashionable plus sized clothes is no easy task.
