Educational gifts for toddlers

Children are little dictionaries waiting to be filled up with knowledge. It is our job as parents to nurture their desire to learn. Encourage your child to do the best they can. Teach them to keep trying, even if they do not get it right the first time. Children have short attention spans. Try to find items that will keep them interested. This can often be a task within itself.

Find toys that will help build motor skills. There are many types of age appropriate toys that you can buy for your child. Somewhere on the package, should be an age limit. This will give you a general idea if this item is on the level you are looking for or too advanced.

Buy chunky toys, to fit little hands. Children like things they can hold on to. Plus, smaller toys may be a choking hazard. Purchase blocks, shape sorters, or talking toys. Things that make noise seem to be popular with kids. Bright colors and textured toys help better build their senses.

Flashcards come in a variety of styles. These are perfect for learning the alphabet and numbers. This is also a good way for parents to stay involved in the learning process. Hold the cards up and let your child tell you the answer. Phonics workbooks are also a good place to start. Children can learn to write their name, shapes, animals, and so much more. Books are a great way to promote learning. Read to your child. Books that are simply written and have colorful pictures are popular with small children.

Try an interactive movie. There are many child programs on television right now. They will encourage your child to play along, get up and dance, or teach them something new. Find a show that your child enjoys. Just be careful not to let the television babysit your child. You don't want to develop a couch potato at a young age. Keep t.v. time limited.

Remember that all children develop at different levels. Make learning available to your child but do not push it on them. You do not want to burn your child out. Give them a chance to grow at their own pace. The children are our future, help your child to make it a bright one.
