Before you start, you should learn how websites rank higher in search engines. There is something called "Page Rank" that belongs to every page that is indexed by a search engine. This Page Rank, ranging from 0 to 10, determines how high up the search results your website will rank. 10 is the highest page rank your website can have, while 0 Page Rank is for new websites.

Page Rank is calculated by finding the number of other websites linking to a particular page. The more websites linking to that page, the higher the page's Page Rank. If the links are coming from pages that have a high PR themselves, then that link will contribute even more to your own Page Rank.

Now that you know about PageRank, you have to go increase it! You do that by getting incoming links on high ranking pages. There are multiple ways of doing this, and I will list a few here.

Directories - Submit your site to directories! There are many free directories to which you can submit your website!

Link exchanges - contact a webmaster of another website with a similar topic, and ask for a link exchange! You link to their pages and they will link to yours.

Link trade systems - find a link trading system to get automatic incoming links! An example is LinkMetro - http://www.linkmetro.com/

Forum s - Post on forums and put your website link in your signature! The more you post, the more times your signature, and thus your link, appears on the forum!
