Have you ever heard that flowers are so expensive? It is true that flower prices are a market priced item and everything from the weather to gas prices can and will affect consumer cost. But, people still run out and purchase the tenderloin, the fanciest red wine, or the gourmet cheeses. And the misconception is that one must purchase the Stargazers, the Ecudorian Roses, the Stephanotis. There are many, many other flowers to choose from when it comes to that special arrangement. And, when one learns which flowers are bred for longevity, fresh cut flowers will become a pleasure well worth receiving!
To maintain floral arrangements takes a little care. Keep it out of direct sunlight, drafts of warm or cold air, and place in cooler temps. Although lovely to display on top of your t.v, dvd player, etc., please do not because of the warmth the equipment projects. I most often place my arrangements in the coolest room available during the night. Another tip is to check and change the water level at regular intervals, "prune" the flowers as needed, and even mist the flowers. Adding a floral preservative to the water is a great way to keep the flowers longer-lasting!
