Bullying, in every aspect of the word, is an essential aspect of a child's life that will undoubtedly lead to improved anger management and self-motivation. As with any theory or hypthesis there are certainly exceptions to this statement (and sometimes tradgic exceptions), but I am a firm believer that bullying serve as a Darwinian reminder of how to succeed in an unforgiving society.
My own personal experiences of being bullied during my early educational career (and there were many) certainly provides examples of this theory in action. While I was never physically harmed to an extreme (fortunately), I was certainly subjected to what could be considered abuse or neglect in a mental capacity. However, after a child is subjected to enough of this criticism and negativity, he or she search for other ways to combat this negativity.
There are obviously effective and ineffective methods in researching these alternatives, and I am certainly not naive to the fact that some children take the extreme route. Examples like Columbine are not only horiffic but certainly a blemish on the state of our society as a whole. However, just as any statistic or group of results for a study, I believe these circumstances serve as a skew that cannot be avoided.
Finally, many people who have been bullied in their earlier years tend to strive in their future careers as a result of their newfound "tough skin". Criticism from supervisors and upper management are no longer seen as personal insults, but are rather handled in a more muture manner due to a person's ability to handle stressful situations more effectively.
