The Science of Good Teaching

Michael heaved an exhausted yawn as he and his older brother Graeme trudged up the rocky rubble that had broken away from a steep cliff in the bush and made a hill in front of their Aunt's ancient house. It stood there, crumbling and old on the corner of Prickly Parade. After his tiring day at school studying for the up coming exams, Michael was sweaty and short of breath, weighed down by his vast amount of homework.

At the top of the hill, the boys' Aunt opened the door, allowing the unmistakable aroma of a neglected cat-box to wash over the two already sweaty boys. She looked down, 3 feet left from where Michael and Graeme stood, her huge glasses glinting in the afternoon light.
"Ah, my sweethearts, Bob and Billy, my dears," she purred. After hugging thin air, she stood back over the threshold and examined the boys with a frown.
"My, my, my, your mother doesn't feed you enough!" she said indignantly.
"Erm, Aunt Cathy," said Graeme, "We're over here."
"Oh, but of course you are," she smiled toothily at them, squeezed them tight in turn and without another word she spun around, descended the musty staircase and bustled off to make to make tea.

The sound of the notorious Crazy Frog ring tone echoed dully against the rocks. Michael was jumping around from rock to rock to the beat when Graeme shouted;
"Oh for crying out loud, will you answer that phone!" He glared reproachfully at his younger brother, who returned it with a filthy look and answered the call. "You spend all your money on stupid ring tones," Graeme called after Michael who ignored him.
Excited but not overwhelmed by nostalgia, the boys searched for their favorite Aboriginal carvings they had found way back in grade four. Graeme climbed down to the western side of the landslide. When he got down there-
"Where'd the carvings go?" Michael asked, appearing at Graeme's side.
"The storm last Saturday must have caused a slippage," replied Graeme, who was not looking for the carvings, but at what the slippage had revealed.
"Hey, we found dinosaur fossils!" Michael exclaimed. If they were any type of fossil at all, it would get he and his brother a free ticket to the easiest blue ribbon science project ever!
"Don't be stupid," Graeme shook his head, muttering more to himself than his brother. He was sure he'd seen a picture of this in a magazine somewhere, but he was also pretty sure he'd thrown it out.
"I think these are dinosaur eggs."
