What is an associate's degree?

In this world today there are several degrees of higher learning today date. When you ask for a definition of the word Associate Degree, it general states that it is a degree granted by a two year college on successful completion of the undergraduates course of studies. Most associates degrees are issued through community colleges, although some Universities can offer them as well. In order to receive an associates degree, one must complete about 60 credit hours. It's just like a four-year degree. The student must have these basic categories of requirements: general requirement classes, major requirement classes, and electives. This is to ensure that the institution has a well-rounded scholar. All associates degree can be completed with in two years of enrollment.

There are several classifications of an associates degree. The basic examples are: the Associate of Arts Degree, Associate of Applied Science Degree, Associate of Science Degree, and Occupational Degree. All of these degrees are put in place to allow graduates to transfer their credits over to a 4-year institution. Certain types of degrees only allow the students to transfer some or part of their credits over to another institution. In this case the student would need to repeat some of the classes they have already taken. The Occupational Associates Degree is designed to help the student focus on training in order to assist with finding employment in a there field of choice.

Generally, the majors for associates degrees are slightly more limited than typical four-year degrees. Most common degrees of this type are in the fields of medical assistant, paralegal, computer-related fields, data processing, and various forms of public service. This is a perfect field for people who would like to get certification faster than those who are seeking out a four-year degree. Make sure that you do your research on various Universities before making a final decision. Most Associates Degrees today can be incurred on line, making it easier for any age of students today.
