You've invited three-hundred people at two-hundred and fifty dollars a head. You've spent months planning, scheming, and organizing. You're about to embark on one of the (hopefully) longest, roughest, happiest, most paradoxically intoxicating experiences of your life: marriage.
So, after all the hard work, time, and money you've put into your wedding day, you will be glad to know that other than sharing this wonderful experiences with your friends and family, you will also benefit from gifts selected by you, for you. How will your guests know exactly what your hearts, and homes, desire? Well, a wedding gift registry of course!
This can be one of the most exciting parts of the wedding planning. Sharing this time with your partner-to-be will help you both visualize and realize your entwined futures together. Brainstorm and come up with a list of basic items you will need, like household appliances, linens, or cutlery. Usually, wedding magazines or other wedding planning resources will provide a basic list of the newlywed bare minimums. In some cases, especially with older couples or couples who cohabited prior to marriage, many basics will already be in your collection, so you can pass these up for more "luxury" items.
It can be really fun to head down to the store with your honey and "shop" for gifts to put on your list. You'll never have a better time! Remember, though, that you should be fair to all of your guests and provide a wide range of prices which will allow everyone an equal opportunity at getting you something you really need or want, regardless of the price.
Overall, the best part of gift registries is that they aren't set in stone. These lists serve only one purpose, to allow your wedding guests to know, in advance, what you will need in your new home as newly weds. So, be reasonable, and have fun!
