When cultures across the world were being Christianized, the locals often parted ways with certain beliefs or practices with great reluctance. Hence, the two sort of ended up mashed together in a number of interesting ways. Hence, we have many strange sacred and secular traditions on holidays. Easter is no different.
Easter is actual a northern European goddess of Spring and fertility. Her name, and her symbol of fertility, apparently stuck. The egg's we hunt for are simple, and rather quite obvious, representations of the continuation of life. Why they come from a "bunny" is a matter open to debate.
Regardless, I, like most people, like my Easter eggs. Especially if they're made of chocolate and filled with cream. This egg-hunting tradition, whose meaning is lost on the majority of those who enjoy it, will probably endure for generations to come. Why? Because people just like good, clean fun.
