How to receive a lousy gift graciously

Receiving a lousy gift graciously is really quite simple. As you open the gift, don't even think about the contents, think about the giver, and appreciate the thought that went into the gift. Your thoughts determine your facial expressions, so if you are having gracious thoughts, you will come across as warm and sincere, because you will be!

If the gift is beautifully wrapped, thank the giver for making such an exquisite package.

If the gift is a nice gift, but does not fit your personality, be thankful that the giver cared enough about you to pick something nice, even if it is not to your liking.

If the gift is truly hideous, and is not wrapped well, consider the giver. Maybe that is the best that they can do. In that case, be appreciative of the fact that they used their limited resources to try to make you happy.

If the gift is just horrible, and you are certain that no thought or energy went into it, smile and be be thankful that you are not them.

Being thankful and appreciative is always in good taste, and no one else needs to know what you are thankful for or appreciative of!
