I wrote this poem after watching a disturbing show on TV about children in America and abroad who live in poverty, abusive homes, and have had "angels" come into their lives to help them. I had just had a baby & I realized I would do anything for my own child...why not someone else's. I titled it - If this little girl were yours:
Wouldn't you give all that you have
to change the life she's always had?
Wouldn't you cross a hill so steep
to give her one night's peaceful sleep?
Wouldn't you pay, or beg, or steal
so she could have one decent meal?
Wouldn't you run around the world
so she could be a "normal girl"?
Wouldn't you tell a thousand lies
so she's no longer have to cry?
You would do all of these, of course
if this little girl were yours.
