The feminist movement was the best thing for men that has occurred in centuries, in my opinion. My life spanned from when "Leave it to Beaver" showed women in pearls, cooking for their husbands to come home to a hot dinner, to now, where women feel berated when they are asked to cook.
I like it better now. Then, men were assigned tasks, by tradition, not inclination. Women, also, were assigned roles, and many hated their assigned roles. Now, if they want to work, they can. If a husband wants to be in charge of cooking, he can.
It was a bit difficult, at one time, during the transition. I would reach to open a door for a lady, or reach for the check, or pull out a chair for her to sit, and be denigrated, for being a chauvinist. We are past that, now, I think. Being gentlemanly is not taken as a sign of chauvinism, but a sign of respect. We lost the part about respect for a while.
Should women be paid equally to men for the same job? Yes. Should they be allowed to do equal jobs? Maybe, it depends on the job. I know. I'm a chauvinist. I do think we have tried to equalize man and women, and they aren't equal, they are different, and do things differently, and different strengths and abilities. I am glad they are different, and cherish our differences. I don't think they should do some jobs that some men can do better. So, sue me.
Oh, and the best thing about the movement, I can now cook for myself, without being laughed at.
