I was born and bred in Dublin and have never lived elsewhere, I love my city too much for all its flaws and problems. I know that the only way to truly learn about the real Dublin is to avoid tourist places like Temple Bar, only visit places like this if you want to meet fellow tourists. The best pubs and clubs in Dublin are outside the city centre and are usually only a bus journey or tram ride away but the clubs that are close to the city centre are always more convenient. Be prepared to spend a lot of money in Dublin, it is quite expensive but the atmosphere makes up for it. Having grown up around the corner from Stephen's Green, I can only recommend visiting the Park to feed the ducks inside and view the paintings outside or even take a horse and carriage ride.
Straight across from the park is Stephen's Green Shopping Centre, which is three floors of food, groceries, clothes, perfume, art and even tattoos. Beside the Shopping Centre is Grafton Street, probably the nicest street to stroll down however expensive the shops here may be, between buskers and fire eaters, you just never know who you will see here. Brown Thomas is one of the shops here that is well worth a visit. Venture outside of the city centre whenever possible and visit the huge shopping centres in Blanchardstown, Liffey Valley and Dundrum. ALWAYS be careful with your money and possessions because crime is a big problem here but don't let that spoil your time in Dublin.
Trinity College is just beyond Grafton Street and many people like to visit the Book of Kells and appreciate its beauty and history. All around this area are museums and historical points to visit, Dublin is full of locations of historical significance and it would be impossible to fit them all in on the one trip, although the Tourbus and the Viking Boat have made a good effort at it. Patrick's Cathedral with Marsh's Library and Christchurch along with Dvublinia are worth visiting especially if you are interested in history, and I highly recommend both the Royal Hospital and Kilmainham Jail. I guarantee that you will experience shivers down your spine while taking a tour around the Jail where many of our heroes from the 1916 uprising where held and executed. The Royal Hospital holds art shows and exhibitions and is a truly beautiful building.
If I were to name everything worth mentioning then this would be an extremely long article but if you do anything, visit the Liberties market for deals and a bit of old Dublin and also Moore
