The history of Judaism

The Jewish Religion

This is my report about Judaism. The Jewish religion is the third biggest religion in the world. It is also the slowest growing religion in the world. My report is going to talk how the Jewish religion started. Then it will talk about how the Jewish religion is like Christianity and different from Christianity. Then I will talk about how the Jewish religion is structured. In my conclusion, I will talk about why I believe the Jewish religion is wrong.

The Jewish religion started about in the year 1300BC. The Jewish religion was started by a man called Abraham. The Jewish religion was first started in a place called Mesopotamia. This is in Canaan which is the Holy Land. God told Abraham that he would have control over all the land he could see. Abraham was a nomad and he traveled to many places. Abraham's youngest son was named Isaac. Isaac was enslaved by his older brothers and then he became second highest to the throne. The Jewish religion was a way to worship God before Christians. Today in the world there are about 14 million people who are Jewish.

The Jewish religion is like Christianity in that they have holy books. The Jewish people call their holy book the Tanakh. It is the same book as the Christian Old Testament. The Jewish people divide the Tanakh into 3 parts. The first part is called the Torah. It is the first five books of the Old Testament. The second part is called the Nevi'im. The third part is called the Ketuvim. There are 39 total books in the Tanakh. The Jewish religion is Monotheism like Christians. This is a belief in a single God. But the Jewish religion is different than Christians because they do not thing Jesus is the son of God. Jews do not go to Church on Sunday. Their Holy day starts at sundown on Friday night and they go to Church on Saturdays. Since they do not believe Jesus is God, the Jewish religion does not have Christmas and Easter as important days. They celebrate Passover, which is when Moses left Egypt. They also celebrate Rosh Hashanah which is a Jewish New Year. They also celebrate Yom Kippur which is when they think about their sins and how they are sorry. Another way the Jewish religion is like Christianity is that they use the 10 Commandments as their Law.

The Jewish religion is structured different than Christianity. The Jewish people call their buildings a Temple and it is where they go to worship God. The leaders of their religions are not called Pastors or Ministers, they are called Rabbis. Jewish children study Judaism from a very young age in religion classes. When they are 13 years old they have a ceremony in the Temple where they become adults in the religion. For boys this ceremony is called a Bar Mitzvah. For girls this ceremony is called a Bat Mitzvah.

My conclusion will talk about how I think the Jewish religion is a wrong religion. I think that they are wrong because they do not recognize Jesus Christ as God or as our Savior. The do not accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, so he will not forgive their sins. In the Bible, John 3:16 God says For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
