Communication. It is a word we hear a lot today. Every talk show host, pop psychologist, expert, educator and well meaning adviser says it. Communicate with your partner, communicate with your child, communicate with your co-worker. Middle East peace would be achieved if everyone would just communicate. What everyone should be saying is we should all be trying to "successfully communicate." Anyone can make their wishes known or convey an idea. It takes real talent to listen to the other person and get your point across intelligently and respectfully. My husband and I have been together for nearly fifteen years and I realized early on that sometimes the best way to communicate is to agree to disagree. True communication comes from true caring and respect. We can learn to communicate well - it is a skill that can be acquired, but love in a relationship cannot be contrived. If two people truly like each other, love one another and respect each other's opinion, good communication is almost assured - with a little practice!
