YORK TODAY

York is very near to where I was born. It's an historic city and offers much to the public as a place to visit while on holiday. York is in the North of England, and what it offers is one of the best examples of a walled City within the United Kingdom. The walls of the city can be walked around, and getting away from the crowds, and taking this walk gives a whole new viewpoint of a city that has so many hidden treasures.

THE CATHEDRAL

York Minster, in the center of York is a beautiful Cathedral with all the architecture, arches, and wood carving in a wonderful state of restoration, which boasts some of the most magnificent stained glass windows.

MUSEUMS TO INTEREST EVERYONE

The City Museum or Castle Museum really is a day out on its own and may appeal to those that want to delve back into the past, in that not only is it a museum, but part of it is devoted to being set out as a Victorian street, with little curiosity shops, candy sellers, blacksmiths shops, and really does take you back in time.

The Viking Center is lesser known, though over the years has grown in popularity, and one of the largest attractions around York is the Railway Museum housing a huge collection of historical railway memorabilia.

SHOPPING

I love shopping in York. In the center of town, there are both modern shops and streets, but the highlight of a trip to York is a visit to the Shambles, old cobbled streets with nooks and crannies, where the tourist is taken into a journey of discovery and pleasure that is hard to forget. I love the Shambles because there is always something new to see, and no matter how many times you visit, something surprises you within the changing shopfronts or hidden away places that catch your eye.

OVERALL

Of all the cities in England York to me is one of the best for a visitor, and offers so much, and you can spend quiet moments of reflection in the midst of a visit, just sitting on the grass and having a picnic, taking in the local surroundings at a pace you enjoy.
