Trip Advisor is not so much a travel agency as a travel resource. It is a collection of travel reviews archived and put into a search database for easy access for curious travelers. The service is free of charge.
A service like this is actually pretty rare. Trip Advisor features an astounding 2 million reviews! Almost every hotel in the world is reviewed at least once. Services like bus and airfare are thoroughly examined. Even though any one facet of this process could seem inconclusive, when you add up enough bits of information you get a clear picture of a company's reputation.
In fact, this is the most impeccable method known to verify a company's reputation outside of calling the Better Business Bureau. And the BBB often misses major corporations that have the legal means to escape being castigated by it. This is where a peer review site like Tip Advisor comes in handy.
You have to remember to take what you read with a grain of salt, as these are people who might have let a bad experience cloud their judgment. If you see one bad review among many good ones, you should probably just assume it was an error of some sort.
There are ringers. You can tell by the glowing, ad-like review of the service and the tendency to provide details that seem a little too exact to have been provided by the average customer. Above all remember to use this as merely one source of information and not your sole travel reference.
This service is a great one and will only grow over time. As long as you know its limitations, this site is one of the greatest resources a traveler can come across, and as such it is a 10/10. Check it out at: www.TripAdvisor.com.
