When you buy a gift for a friend, it is important to know something about your friend. What are her likes and dislikes? What would make her smile? What would show her that you understand her and are a true friend? If you do the same thing with your local birds, you will be rewarded with many a bright color and many a sweet song.

What kinds of birds are native to your area? What do they like to eat? Are there bushes or trees that they prefer? Would a particular kind of birdhouse attract the birds you would most like to have invade your backyard? Would they appreciate a nice bath, swimming pool, or hot tub?

To attract the kind of birds you want to your backyard, you have to create the conditions in your backyard that will be inviting to those birds. And keep your bird feeders clean and filled and keep your bird bath clean and filled. If the birds find your hospitality lacking, they will simply move to someone else's backyard.
