The best NCAA mens coach? Hmmm, I'll let all you number crunchers argue the facts and figures of the game and the history of wins, losses and titles. I don't think anyone can answer it in those terms, so I'll pose it like this:

Ask that kid, and there's boatloads of them, who didn't have a chance coming out of high school. His grades were just enough and his skill and work ethic matched his grades. Low income family, maybe the first to go to college, even graduate high school. Sports may or may not be his ticket out but it beats the harsh reality of his home life and family influence which may be plagued with drugs, violence and a history that expects him to fail.

I'm sure the coach that came along and recognized him as more than a double double player, more than another jump shooter, more than just athlete, will go down as the best mens basketball coach, to that kid. The same coach who helps his kids study for class and for the games, spends time like a father to many of these kids who never had a father in their lives, that's the best mens coach, and why? Because he made MEN out of them.

A lot of the people you walk by everyday, work with, or even can see have done something to be mildly successful in life, may have been influenced by just such a coach. The Coach that didn't scream and cuss at his players while throwing chairs, or the coach that showed money and fame is more important than the game itself by leaving for the NBA, only to become a bust.

Dig deeper in thought when answering these questions people, it's not the numbers of the game, it's the numbers for life. Best men's coach ever? There's too many to count.
