In the dark, short day lit hours of the year, people tend to get a little stir crazy. It is almost as if the lack of light drives people to overcompensate themselves by lining their nests with entertainment.
In the spring and summer, the extended daylight, acts as a pacifier. People slow down and kick back. It is as if the sun fills us with content. But at the same time, I question this feeling, over the conditioning of the driving economy and the way in which we tend to follow a pattern.
Most holidays are celebrated in the Fall and Winter. A lot of businesses thrive off of these holidays, which in turn, fuel our economy. We are told to spend money in order to keep things rolling, and that is what we do.
If it is not a Holiday, but merely a celebration of an historical event or person, such a president or a pioneer; Businesses Taylor their sales pitches to fit the day, and turn it into a major selling event.
A lot of businesses look at their yearly goals based on only a few months of going full steam with production. It is a supply and demand thing. If the business is there to had, then it is best to be as prepared for it, as possible.
When businesses look at the twelve month picture, they have to average their income, taking into consideration that maybe three quarters of their business comes in during a five or six month period. Fortunately, during their down time they are able to regroup and plan their strategies for the next busy onslaught.
So, I guess the reason that business slows down in the Spring and Summer is that we are conditioned to spend our money in the Fall and Winter. We tend to resign ourselves to working as much as we can in the darker months. We tend to work more in order to either make purchases for the holidays or we want to save up for that vacation next year, or both.
But then, in the Spring and Summer, there is the travel industry, which is there to catch all of that money we made in the winter. Unfortunately, we are usually burned out of cash at that point and we tend to then support the credit card business.
