Poetry: Self-awareness

by Greg Deluca

Created on: April 03, 2007   Last Updated: May 14, 2007

For the first time in my life,
I know I came up short,
but it doesn't affect me.
Out of sight, out of mind.

It wasn't a complete waste,
that things ended the way they did.
I thought this would be it.
I'm looking forward to taking my place.

I've blamed others for my mistakes,
it's too late to save face,
but I'd like to say thank you,
for everything you don't do.

My identity's breaking through,
it's about time.
I'm starting over,
but I'm the closest to the finish line.

By the way,
I hate you.
You wanted the world I couldn't give,
I'm not running away from you.

Let the discovery begin,
I have what I need.
This is who I am within,
What are you going to do?
