I suggest that all cities create positions for just traffic police and traffic code violations. This job would entail just enforcing traffic codes and teaching drivers of courteous and friendly ways to obey the traffic laws.
Every day I see so many violations and people know that the city does not enforce most traffic laws except for speeding and running red lights - but what about illegal turns from people who don't know how to drive? How about people that turn right from the inside lane of the road? How much more increase in our auto insurance rates will be faced if we don't actively enforce traffic laws? So many young kids and immigrants today are blatant violators of traffic laws and they know if they do it - they will not get caught.....
When we were young (in the 70's) traffic laws were very serious and everyone abided....and if not, you were easily fined quite a bit. Today so many people are from other countries that have much less strict traffic laws and I regularly see them ignore obvious traffic codes every day because that is what they did in their own country.
If we all focused on stringer traffic enforcement, we would have less road rage - most people get mad when they see others blatantly break the law and get away with it, when they are not but get stuck in traffic and something else. If we have more enforcement, we would not see regular increases in auto insurance premiums. If we have better enforcement, we would have safer streets for our children and our elderly. How many times in one week do you hear about some person getting run over by unsafe, ignorant drivers?
