Basic computer training falls into several categories:
1) How to use your computer in general (how to turn it on, start a program, etc.)
2) How to use the internet (such as reading email, web surfing, surfing safely, etc.)
3) How to use specific application (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
4) Programming
If you're reading this, you've probably got the hang of step 1, turning on the computer, but if not, the best place to start is either a book - such as the "Dummies" series, which is really for people smart enough to know they need a book - or even better, a community education class. You can usually find those at your local library, or at your local community college.
You can find information on step 2, using the internet, in the same places. Depending on how you connect to the internet at home, you also have the option of contacting your Internet Service Provider (the people you pay every month for your email) to help you out.
As for learning to use a specific application, start it up and choose "Help", usually the last menu option on the right. In some cases, you'll find actual tutorials that walk you through getting started with the application. In the case of more common programs, like Microsoft Word, etc., you can also find classes like the ones mentioned in step 1. Another good place to look for help is the company website for the program, such as http://www.microsoft.com.
Progr amming is another issue altogether, but if you're getting ready to write your own programs, you probably already know that. Where you turn here depends on what programming language you're talking about, but also depends greatly on your own learning style. Some people prefer to just bang on a project and stumble around until they find their way, others prefer to start with a book and take a more organized approach. In either case, you can also find great information on most programming languages on the web.
