needs it. I am also willing to pay the extra money to have clothing that actually fits me, but that didn't make a difference. Catherines, my main clothing store, does offer more modern clothing instead of the "granny" look, but it's rare for me to find clothing that fits my body type, my coloring and my size.
While things are improving, the fashion industry has a long way to go in eliminating prejudice toward the plus-sized person. People who live above the norm when it comes to size, especially those who live way above it, face frustration every day as they attempt to dress. They cannot find clothing that fits well, looks nice, and allows their beauty to show through. Instead they find themselves paying big money for clothing that is close, but doesn't really fit the bill. They find themselves walking down the street with people pointing, staring and even commenting, not about their features, but about the flaws their clothing points out in its ill-fitting glory. The fashion industry needs to recognize this and stop treating plus-size women as less important than anyone else who wears clothing.
I would love to walk into a store and buy an outfit that I love, but that seldom happens. I instead buy the closest thing I can find because I have no choice: society frowns on public nudity. As the population continues to expand, I believe the fashion industry will eventually wake up, at least to some degree. For now, the plus-size beauty who wants a garment that fits and makes her look her best, a sewing machine is her best option. Good luck getting the good material, however. In the meantime, plus-size girls, stand and be counted. Don't accept the dregs of a prejudice fashion industry as your due. Let your voice be heard and walk proudly as a woman of worth - regardless of your size.
