The key to finding happiness in any career path is to find a career that makes you happy. In many cases, a slow career path is very frustrating. That makes it even more important to choose a career that makes you happy, regardless of how quickly you move up in that career.
Most people would be much happier to retire and give up their career all together if they could afford it. That is why it is called work. For the few who persist in pursuing the career that makes them happy, it is usually at some cost. Writers, photographers, musicians and artists are all people who hope to turn their passion into a career. This can be very difficult, if not impossible. Anyone who has ever succeeded in an artistic career has had to make many sacrifices and suffer through many months or years of very slow growth in that career.
If you are in a career that generally takes a lot of time and patience before you can be recognized, try to remind yourself that patience is a virtue and that you are simply paying your dues as so many before you already had to do. However, if you aren't able to move up at all or it is very slow, you may need to take on a second source of income until that career of your dreams takes off.
On the other hand, if you are working at a dynamic company but are continuously passed over for promotions or raises, you may want to consider moving on rather than waiting for your turn.
