Thoughts on "The Happiness Purpose" by Edward De Bono

Edward De bono is a well respected expert in the science of thinking and has been credited with inventing the term 'lateral thinking' which is now so much part of our language that it's used as much in science lessons as in television comedy. Dr de Bono has pioneered forward in the pursuit of exploring ways of objectifying and bettering creative processes for industries world wide including IBM, Prudential, AT&T, British Airways, Du Pont, British Coal, NTT, Ericsson, Total(France), etc. and the largest corporation in Europe, Siemens has taken to teaching his work across their whole corporation. The Happiness Purpose approaches the search of happiness as the ultimate personal drive of life to the extent De Bono uses the phrase 'If I was to design a new religion this would be it.' De Bono's straight forward and easily accessible way of delivering truly profound and potentially life changing subject matter is amazing and a must read. His tools for lateral thought and improving ones sense of self importance is a must read for all those interested in design, creativity through to self improvement, philosophy and psychology. The Happiness purpose's proposed religion is based on the belief that the legitimate purpose of life is happiness and the best foundation for happiness is self importance. This is achieved through the use of thought, humour and dignity. The methods he describes aren't intended as a replacement for religious beliefs and can run in conjunction with these. This work is truly profound, philosophical and can provide tools for true mental and spiritual betterment through a proactive approach to how we use our brains and treating it as a workable tool. Edward de Bono is one of the very rare people in history who can be said to have majorly influenced the way we think. Internationally, with works translated into more than thirty four languages, he is recognised as the best international thinker. This is highlighted by his Invite in 1990 to chair a meeting of Nobel laureates from around the world. The meeting took place in Korea.
