Short stories: End of the world

beat faster as the light grew brighter and the roar grew louder. The fire seemed to fill her eyes and it lit up her face and she had never looked more beautiful or alive.
There was a noise like an explosion and a blinding light then a sound akin to a roaring wind. The last thing Mark saw was Sarah's face looking at him. The fire had gone from her eyes now and its place he saw love and infinity.

The asteroid blew a massive part of the planet up into space with chunks of rock and dust spewing upwards and outwards thousands of feet, annihilating everything in its path and..
.hundreds of light years away on earth, the asteroid strike appeared as a small cluster of shooting stars just visible in the night sky.
Sitting on a blanket on a small hill, much as Mark and Sarah had been, were Alex and his girlfriend Clare.
"Oh look!" Clare said, smiling and pointing up at the sky.
Alex narrowed his eyes and followed Clare's gaze. "What?" he muttered.
"I just saw a load of shooting stars!"
"Great," Alex said, more interested in Clare's cleavage than the sky.
"There's more of them. Quick, look before they go." Clare tugged at his arm.
Alex sighed but looked up at the sky. "Lovely," he said.
Clare watched as the shooting stars soared off in different directions before the lights slowly faded into blackness. When there were no more, she lay back down on the blanket again.
"Do you ever think there's anything out there Alex?" she murmured.
"What? Like UFO's, aliens?" Alex said. He shook his head, "Nah, just us darling, only us..now look at me, not the stupid sky."
Clare smiled and shook her head as he bent over to kiss her and the starry night vanished from view.
