Australia: Effects of free trade

Free Trade - Good for Ozzie?

Well there have been shenanigans going around, pumping their chests and with that all knowing smile on their face preaching to the "hoi polloi" about the benefits of free trade and how free trade will bring literally the moon to your feet.
But who are these so called pundits? Are they the ones who are like the ostrict when they see danger hide their heads under the sand? Lets not kid ourself. Free trade is the beginning of the end as they say. What does free trade suggest? In the purest sense free trade is a thing where there is no borders in the world; the whole world is one and every one can do bussiness as they wish and go about building their empire so to speak.

But in reality is this the case? No, definitely NOT. The real world has many countries and boundaries with various rules governing on who can trade in what locations and who can live where. Free trade will destroy the whole fabric of Ozland. Oz land is known for the "quality lifestyle" that people of this great country have. Free trade will the death knell of this.
When politicians talk about allowing others to do business on the lines of free trade, it sends a shiver down my spine. A worker in another country who works for 5 cents a day for his whole days work is going to compete with the one in Ozland who gets minimum of 120 dollars a day. How fair is this? Well one can ask why cant the oz worker also take 5 cents for his work then he can compete with the overseas worker. But one forgets that the "overseas worker" who earns 5 cents a day can live on it; can feed himself, his family and also save a cent from his daily wages. Do you think 5cents would buy one anything in Ozland? Well the Oz bank itself is thinking of doing away with 5 cents since there is "zilch" value now in 5 cents.
How can one even talk of free trade in that case? I would say go the opposite way. To preserve the jobs and lifestyle of people in Ozland, one has to put lot of excise on goods and services that are imported into Astralia. That is the only way that one can compare apples with apples. Today Australia has almost full employment. Australia has vast amount of natural resources and very little population. But if free trade were to be permitted tomorrow, Australians would loose jobs by the shipload to overseas workers. Australia would go back to eventually being an entity in the history books as having been a continent where life existed some time.
But not just Australia. Free trade
