WRITER'S INSPIRATION

from angels whispers and childrens smiles
along dirt roads that stretch for miles
whispered words heard on a bus
loving hearts just like us
pain and hurt, choking words mumbled
fear and stress and whinges grumbled
sights and scenes and plans and dreams
this is where we get our inspiration

during awefilled moments of patriotic gleam
in winding valley and a clear fresh stream

through city streets and paths of stone
in gardens ragged and filled with gnomes
by hospital bedsides in bitter grief
losing a life to the spirit thief
grannies fresh bread and uncles bald head
this is where we find our inspiration

blank pages in front of us too bare
words falling in place from god knows where
images and memories and flashes of light
nightmares and dreams that fill up the night
pebbles on beaches, cones from a tree
walking on frosted grass, visiting the sea
Babies in cots and timber with knots
can fill us with inspiration

but can we ever know what causes that flash
that picture of words that verbal gnash
can we ever be sure from where it came
or why it is there and its not the same
different to the thought youd had
or the feeling of being happy or sad
How does it come to you what is it you do
to open the portals wide of inspiration
