Bride's name change guide

The purpose of changing the bride's name is quite simple: It shows that she has now become part of the groom, and that they are now one. Keeping a maiden name as a "second last name" really defeats the purpose of changing the last name. This is according to the Bible, and it is supposed to reflect similar Christian concepts of giving up oneself for Christ and becoming his bride.

The process of changing the Bride's name, however, is not-so-simple. It takes a lot of paper work and money. Every document must be changed. Furthermore, any diplomas, certifications, etc. will need to be submitted with an official proof of marriage when necessary.

For many people, having the same surname means being part of the same family unit. So, on the one hand, a bride is becoming part of a new family, and other other hand she is disconnecting from her previous family. However, that is not entirely true. We are not connected by our names, but in law. If the need and ease is there to change one's name then it can be a nice aspect of marriage. Otherwise it might just be a hassle.
