This could be in connection to the issue of paying attention to your surroundings. Men generally drive women is planning her full day from start to finish while commuting. This means men have more reaction time in an accident because he was paying attention and noticed it in time to correct or avoid the situation.

I am not saying males are the better driver. I am simply saying they tend to present themselves as so in many cases. A female who pays attention and drives without the weight of the world in her mind could be just as good of driver if she has practiced the same amount of skills. What it all comes down to is the knowledge of safety and your surroundings, then the attitude to do it and get it over with. Being a good driver requires proper training, the right attitude, and the willingness to adjust to the situation.

Being a good driver simply means knowing how to get where you are going safely. Sometimes that means taking it slow and easy sometimes that means gunning it and going. There are no better drivers it is just the ability to handle the situation at hand with good judgment. There are some girls who can drive making her competitor fellows eat the dust out of her tires, and then there are the guys who no matter how hard their chick friends may try just can't handle the car like he can.

The bottom line is if you want to be a good driver you have to have the nerve to do what needs to be done in any situation. You need your attention on the road and not the day ahead. You need to know enough about a vehicle to know how it reacts in different situations such as different speeds, the handling of different vehicles, and how a vehicle reacts to different road conditions. The only way to learn to drive is to just get out of your comfort zone and do it. Do not go to the busy free way to learn this on the first attempt. A back or side road with little traffic or if you are in the country a big field, can teach you more than you ever thought possible. So what are you waiting for hit it already!
