MOTIVATING STAFF
Staff that are not motivated are not as productive as staff that are. It's a well known fact that those who care about their work will work more efficiently, although there are areas in which a leading member of staff can motivate others that will aid productivity and the general atmosphere in the workplace exceptionally well.
PEOPLE SKILLS
Being able to communicate and keep staff informed brings down barriers between management and staff. Staff feel that they are involved in the day to day processes, and involvement really does motivate staff to do their best.
In communicating with different skill levels, learning not to talk down to members of a team is essential, and remembering that their part in the workload that produces your wages and indeed your security is essential if you want to improve motivation. Staff that are snubbed, left in the dark when the decision making progress is made behind closed doors feel dissatisfied and do not perform as well as those who are kept enlightened.
TEACHING YOUR STAFF
Training and learning make a member of staff feel that even if they are in a job with little in the way of prospects, they are progressing rather than stagnating. Sharing workload and learning how to delegate with trust will enhance a workers motivation to please, and many will respond to the responsibility positively.
PRAISE
Letting your staff know their value helps. Appreciating the extra mile that they go in times of crisis is wise, although remembering always that those in mundane jobs that perform them satisfactorily also need the occasional boost of praise will help them feel that the work they do is sufficiently important to feel motivated.
Remember that the company you work for want motivated staff in order to succeed and that includes all workers at all levels, including perhaps those that you neglect to notice. From the humble to the mighty, people thrive on recognition that their best was good enough, and without this recognition lose motivation.
People matter.
