There are several sites that now offer the ability to locate gas stations and compare prices. Mapquest is one that just started doing it. It makes sense for them to do it since they are a very popular site. Now, when it comes to locating a gas station without using the internet, I would say observe the prices as you are driving around, whether it be to work, or to the local mall. The thing is, if you find a place that is not really near your home, you will wind up burning gas, and ultimately you would not be saving anything. You have to also consider the taxes if you are going from different counties, or even states. Plus, depending on the area you are in, this will effect how much the gas costs. The more ritzy the area, the more money you will pay. Sometimes, your local news will have on their web page and even on their broadcasts where the best gas prices are. Mapquest and your local news are probably the best resources for price comparison if you are not driving around. Of course, if you are running low and your car starts beeping at you, and that dreaded light goes on, you really cannot afford to be running around picking out gas stations, then I would say you might just have to bite the bullet and find the next gas station and get gas no matter what the cost. If you do not want to fill up maybe get about $10 worth of gas to tide you over (depending on how far you are from the cheaper station) and get you to the place that has the cheaper gas prices. Remember, gas prices are constantly changing, so check often, especially if you know that when you leave the house you are going to need gas.
