Change management is a sexy term used for the concept of rerouting an employee's habits to better fit what the company desires. It can be a very tricky and complicated process. The coin was termed about ten years ago amidst an influx of new personnel strategies, and is one of the few techniques from that era to stand the test of time and continue on in contemporary business practice.
Change management has the tremendous potential of an incredibly powerful ally incurring fundamental changes to your organization to providing a strategic competitive advantage over your competitors.
Effective change management leadership is one of the most challenging and rewarding opportunities to improve your business. You will be contracting with each individual employee that you wish to enroll in it; it is usually best to institute a general policy and hold everyone equally accountable.
Gather everyone and make the announcement. Approach this from the point of view of improving and not condemning the status quo. Then mention the incentives.
Rewards are very important in any change management program because it provides incentive to make the change that is positive and this fosters increased focus on the goals. This will fuel the drive to go further down the path of career related achievement and result in greater respect for the company.
There will be times when employees fall short of the changes and then you have to decide whether or not to punish them. A good method that does not seem direct is by exclusion. Let those that met the benchmarks do something social while the failed employee stays back to work. sometimes you will have to be more sever; you may even have to terminate and employee. No one said this program would not have its Darwinian elements.
A change management program is a new tool to ensure the evolution of your personnel. The theory is that you hire them good then make them better, mostly through goals and incentives that further their own determination. Human energy is the lifeblood of most companies and change management gets it pumping harder than all other methods combined.
