Packing tips for a child going to sleep-away camp

Packing to me was like doing a school project. Just keep putting it off for the last minute. I'd think about it a lot, but actually going to do it was just too much. My mother however, was, has, and always will be the packing queen. Even after learning a few things about packing in the military I still can't manage to do it as perfectly. However here are some tips from both sources.

-Anything liquid, powder, i.e. bug spray, deoderant, ointments, shampoo, etc... should be in little plastic sandwich bags. In case of any spill or leak the problem will be contained.

-If you can fit all of the clothes just by folding them, more power to you. I find it much easier and less space consuming to roll clothes and towels as tightly and thinly as possible.

-Always throw in an extra empty trash bag or mesh bag for dirty laundry.

-Pick out outfits ahead of time and pack clothes as outfits not just tossed in. This can save time and you can be sure you've packed enough for the time needed.

-Extra underwear, socks, sweat bottoms and a top. Just because, well, you never know.

-It always helps to pack a little essentials kit.
-bug repellant
-band-aids
-sunblock
-water bottle
-neosporin
-flashlight
-mouthwash, toothpaste
-any first-aid or necessary medical stuff.

-Be the cool parent! Pack stuff to do for fun if the camp ends up being a bore. Activity books, reading material, magazines, travel games... maybe sneak some candy if you have a little rebel on your hands.(Most electronics are not allowed at camps. Avoid jewelery and new shoes. Don't send anything expensive, or anything that's going to be a problem if it gets lost, stolen or confiscated becuase that's NOT cool). Not too much! Keep in mind you're probably going to be the one who gets stuck carrying a lot of this stuff.

-Just remember. Cover the basics first and it always helps to make a list and check it off as you go along. Usually camps will send a list of what to bring and what not to bring. So follow those guidelines as well.

-And always pack a bathing suit and towel! Because nothing sucks more than being the only kid who isn't swimming.

Good luck packing, and don't forget to write!
