for bringing freedom to people who had never tasted that sweet prize, and liberty to a region accustomed to repression. He will be remembered as a President in wartime, who kept the war far, far away from us.
But there is more to a legacy than keeping our country safe. President Bush's economic plan will also be a component of his legacy. His economic plan will one day be acknowledged as a success, especially when considered in the light of the economic devastation we experienced after 9/11. The President's plan will be remembered for proving that reducing taxes does indeed stimulate economic growth, providing record stock market highs, while recording near record low unemployment. However, our President will also be remembered for record deficits and uncontrolled growth in government spending. Spending reminiscent of the some of the worst economic policies in history.
The most telling point of his legacy may be the plight of the illegal resident aliens in our country. President Bush now faces a compassionate choice to provide a legal path to citizenship and amnesty of these people who have violated our laws, or a choice to support law and order by enforcing our countries laws. Over the next several months, our President and our Congress must make the choice. Will our President be remembered as the one who started next American Civil War? Or will his amnesty policy be a long-term boon to the creation of an even stronger America.
Many people now consider George Bush to be one of the worst presidents in our countries history, others consider him one of the best. Who will be right? Only history will tell.
