Should we be banning certain dog breeds?

for the status it gives them, and that is not always the case.

What about the horror stories the media doesn't sensationalize? Take a look at a Chihuahua, for instance. Small dog, but big attitude! I have known several people who have been bitten by chihuahuas where it has left permanent damage of some sort. This breed is well known to have aggression issues, but do you see anyone trying to ban them? Small dogs in general, or at least ones that I have been introduced to, can be more aggressive than larger breeds, as they tend to be more nervous because the world is so much larger than they are. Yet, they are deemed as "safe" breeds, while a Pit, Rott, or Dobey who has never harmed a hair on anyone's head is being banned somewhere else.

I blame the media, yes, but I also blame the owners of these dogs who have turned aggressive. A good share of the time, the dog becomes aggressive because of lack of training, or maybe because of the type of training it received. If a person teaches a dog to be aggressive, what other kind of behavior are they going to get? Also, dog fighting rings need to have stricter consequences. Instead of banning the animal, why doesn't the SPCA or PETA start legislature that would prohibit owners of dogs who have been trained aggressively from owning future animals?

Any animal can become aggressive, so which breeds are next if they succeed in banning the ones I've mentioned? There are so many to choose from. Will it be the Labrador? Maybe the Collie? Put a stop to banning breeds now, before someone else's beloved pet becomes a victim of stereotyping.
