Testimonies about oxycontin: The dangers and the myths

children begin experimenting with Drugs. I had no idea. Our only prevention is education, DO not be afraid to show your child a program on the negative effects of illicit drug use. Inform your children. Do not ignore it. And even though you want to smack them as hard as you possibly can when you see a needle and spoon in their room, don't! You'll get arrested and than have to go to Anger management and why give a counselor your hard earned money. And they might yell at you in class if you interupt them. Society and the system has ruined and wrecked homes enough.

.

What I am saying is, it is society's problem now. I would not wish a physical dependence of pain killer's on my worse enemy, and I feel so helpless that people only address issues after the fact. And children using this stuff,...... what happened? I am a pain management patient, I have been there. I have researched opiate based narcotics for a decade and was a legal user of prescribed medications for years. I know what these medications can do if used in a lucrative manner, I've seen it. I know what they can do if taken exactly as prescribed, I have done this. This is a new era, a new time and new generation.

The old school mentality of drug counseling and these old school dinosaurs that discriminate against a user for having a problem must stop. Some of these people do not even take an aspirin, they completely shun all drug's in pill form. Baby boomer's are typical of this bureaucrat , conservative, old school mentality. How do you expect these people to be Oxycontin Counselors or Methadone counselors? A lot of them know nothing about drugs from hand's on experience. And if I want to learn to fly a plane I would sooner have a Pilot teach me, than just someone that read books for 20 years on flight.

People are people and we must look at them for what they were, not what they become.

This is a dependence and addiction that is very difficult to deal with and in my experience even Doctor's and counselor's have a hard time with it. I was amazed how little DUI counselors actually knew on pharmaceuticals, so do not assume for a minute that because someone is a counselor that they know what they are talking about. Some become counselor's themselves because they are inadequate and like to see people in a worse situation than themslves, it makes them feel better about themselves. See if they are a bureaucrat, 9 times out of ten, these are the people that have something to hide. A lot are fantastic people. It takes a special breed of an individual to be able to understand and be empathetic to these unfortunate addicts. And I myself wonder what in the world a 13 year old is doing with a spoon, an Oxycontin and a needle. But I have accepted this. We are a long way from this preventing this discrimination. The older people in this field with a old school mentality sadly have to die off.
