What is an associate's degree?

An associate degree is a two year degree or post secondary education from an educational institution like Community college or Junior college and bachelor's degree awarding universities .This degree requires at least one full year of full time study.Some courses extends to three years. Getting an assosciate's degree can be a quick way to land in a job and earn better.Any one with this degree can get jobs like preschool jobs,medical and dental assistant jobs,accountancy jobs and even electronic repair jobs.

Any one with an associate's degree can pursue further studies.The credits from an associate's degree can be transfered to a bachelor's degree course.Your grades and transcripts of the associate's degree will be evaluated by the college before you gain entry to Bachelor's degree course.There are online associate's degrees these days for people who want to earn a degree with a flexible schedule.But this course requires maintaining deadlines.English fluency and good reading comprehension is a must to learn online.

The associate's degree is of 4 types:
1.Associate of Arts (AA)-This course has 60 semester credits .The degree will be in the arts field and normally it is possible to transfer credits to a bachelor's degree.

2.Associate of Science (AS) -This course also has 60 semester credits .The degree will be specializing in science and maths subjects.The credits can be transfered for higher education.

3.Associate in Applied Science (AAS) -Applied science course also has 60 semester credits.Those entering this course has more chances of getting a job.The number of universities accepting the credits of this course are limited.This course is aimed for jobs in the area of technology like aerospace engineering,Nanotechnology and machinery.

4.Associate in Occupational Studies (AOS) -This is a occupation based course with 60 semester credits.Associate of Science in Nursing is an example which can help you get a job in nursing field.All the paramedical courses come under this group.The credits of this degree being accepted in traditional colleges is less.

The first two courses are non vocational and the last two courses are considered vocational courses.
