There are certain traditions that can be tossed out of the wedding without any sense of loss. The wedding speech is one. Many weddings do not have any speeches as such. The best man traditionally gives the first wedding toast, but anyone may give a toast or a speech after that. Sometimes, the bride's father may wish to make a comment or even siblings of the bride or groom.
Tips for speeches or toasts include:
Keep it short.
Keep it sincere.
Or, make it funny.
When the wedding is over, people want to party, not listen to speeches. Unfortunately, some folks have already partied a lot and are ready to regale the captured audience with boring stories about the bride or groom's childhood. Perhaps anyone wanting to give a toast or a speech should have to pass a Breathalyzer test before being allowed to speak.
