Assessing the United States' power and its paradox

Pax Americana consists of water boarding torture in Iraq, at the same time $300 million is spent in supporting refugees in Darfur, Sudan. People are suspicious of the United States motives. Extraordinary rendition where captives were transferred without the intermediary countries knowledge has backfired on the international reputation of the US. Some of the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba captives are now doing world book tours to highlight their experiences.

'Omnia Gallia es in tres partes divisiae' Julius Caesar in his Gallic War commentaries. Julius Caesar was the ultimate propagandist, he depicted the Gallic Vercingetorix leader as a rebel (he was a nationalist leader and tried to destroy the Roman invaders) and proceeded to administer cruel Roman rule. Caesar divided and destroyed his enemies. Vast numbers of Gauls (corresponding to modern France) were slaughtered and enslaved. Roman Rule (Pax Romana) consisted of massacres and enslavement. 'Remember Caesar though art human' Caesar was dispatched by 40 dagger thrusts 44 A.D.

Pax Americana is an unmitigated disaster. U.S. policy in the Middle East has resulted in a strong resurgent Iran. The former 5 countries with Nuclear Weapons has almost doubled to the present 9 countries. The U.S. status internationally has been tarnished. The U.S. first acted unilaterally during President Thomas Jefferson tenure when he dispatched the American Navy to destroy the revolutionary Islamic regime in North Africa who were pirates, this action freed navigation and led to free international trade.

The U.S. is the strongest military power in the world which is now over-stretched in the Middle East. The U.S. does not have an Empire - its leader does not behave like Caesar (an Emperor), the U.S. does not colonise yet has U.S. military bases in at least 45 countries. U.S. influence worldwide is tremendous yet the policies result in the present paradox of a strong Iran. The US supports a Shi'ite government in Iraq, this is anathema to the Sunni Gulf Arab states. Sunnis feel threatened by a resurgent Shi'ite Iran. Iran is making diplomatic contacts with the Shi'ite Iraqi government. Moqtadr al Sadr's Mahdi Army could be the key to a peaceful Iraq with 6 million Shi'ites in Sadr City under his influence.

Diplomacy is the tried and tested method to defuse international tension and avoid war. The Roman Empire was destroyed through rampant inflation.
