There is just something about the thought of camp that takes us back. Maybe it is the smell. Maybe it is the words. Maybe it is the nostlagia. Many youth over the years have created fond memories at summer camp. It is a ritual we can all enjoy.
Dinners in the mess hall were always fun. It was like the lunch room in school. Everyone has their own little click of people they sit with. Remember the big final cook out and bonfire that signalled camp was almost over? I will never forget the smores. (Graham crackers, hershey's chocolate, and marshmellows. This is the original campfire snack. It is delicious!)
The togetherness has a deep impact on our children. It is important that kids are developing new relationships. They should be making new friends, and learning new things. The expierience in general is what helps them become a stronger person. They are becoming more responsible and independent.
Learning new things that could possibly lead to a new skill or interest is always a bonus. You are taught a variety of things at camp. Some people choose to persue those things even after summer is over. You can learn lessons to last us a life time. If at first, things do not go well...you know what to do!
Remember what it was like? Do not take that away from you child. Remember the innocence of summer camp? Remember laughing and roaming around through the woods late at night, getting the pig pin award for having the messiest cabin,(and being proud to accept the honor) catching poision ivy because you wiped your butt with a leaf? There were snacks at the canteen. The showers were outside and we had to wear flip flops. The best thing to take to bed with you was a fly swat...There are so many things that bring a smile when you look back.
There are so many good things about camp. No child should miss the opportunity to spend a little time away from time to time. Encourage your child to get away. Everyone will be glad you did.
