Orbitz.com is a compact website, concerned more with printed word offers like "Mega Deals" in various fonts and sizes rather than photos of well known holiday destinations and the ubiquitous tanned bodies lazing on tropical islands, to lure it's customers.

After trawling travel websites into the wee hours searching for a cheap flight to Colorado,Orbitz.com made the top of my list. It was easy to use and gave me the better fares. However I wanted to stay at a specific hotel which didn't feature on its website.

Not wanting to book flights without confirming accommodation availability, I reluctantly clicked out of my good Orbitz.com fare knowing full well it wouldn't be there the following day.

Logging on to it the next morning and sure enough those delightfully cheap fares had skyrocketed in price. On telephoning my hotel's reservation center, they asked if I'd already booked my air flights. The clerk informed me they book through Orbitz.com.

She was able to get me a fare only $20 more than the cheapest fares I could have got the night before that were no longer available. Her fares were also cheaper than anything that I could access at that time on Orbitz.com so of course I took her deal.

Orbitz.com is easy to use and gives you lots of options however for me it was considerably cheaper to book through the reservations center. Also on looking at the activities for my destination featured on the site. Again it was a better deal through the hotel booking center than on Orbitz.com

No doubt the hotel reservation center uses the corporate arm of Orbitz.com called Orbitz for Business. So before you book that holiday check with your hotel's reservation center, they may be able to get you a better deal.
